The University of Bath Karate Club (UBKC) is a dynamic and successful club open to everyone, regardless of fitness, experience or gender. We have been established here at Bath for over 20 years.
New to Karate?
Predominantly teaching Wado-Ryu Karate, we offer regular training focusing on the key benefits of a martial art:
· Technique
· Fitness
· Confidence
Within this we offer not only the more traditional karate training, but also explore the more practical aspects including self-defence from a variety of different martial arts and competition fighting with sessions dedicated entirely to these.
Experienced coaches will guide all students, no matter what level you’re at, in learning and applying the various techniques developed within Karate. You will learn to put these strikes, kicks and stances to effective use, together with Jiu-Jitsu application, in being able to defend yourself confidently.
Returning to Karate?
No matter your level of previous experience or style, any previous karateka are more than encouraged to come try our sessions. Between our hired and assistant coaches the club covers Wado-Ryu, Shotokan, Shito-Ryu & Jiu-Jitsu styles, with members arriving every year from other styles. We ensure training is flexible enough so that you are able to practice, or even share, your own style, whilst also offering the opportunity to experience something new.
At the end of the day, everyone is here not only to learn a martial art and keep fit, but to meet new and interesting people from a variety of different backgrounds. With regular socials and a warm, welcoming community, theres always an opportunity to meet new students.
