University Radio Bath (URB) have done us proud again by receiving nominations in the categories ‘Best Specialist Music Programming’ and ‘Best Entertainment Programming’ at this year’s Student Radio Awards.

The awards are a celebration of all things student radio and aim to help launch the next generation of radio talent into the industry. As always, the awards will be held in Indigo at The O2 on November 10 and are sponsored this year by Global and BBC Sounds.

Antigoni Katsantoni, Station Manager at URB and nominee for ‘Best Specialist Music Programming’ for her show ‘we move radio’, spoke of her delight at being nominated:

‘In such a tough year, I’m very proud of us at URB for everything that we have achieved. Despite the pandemic, URB produced some amazing shows and content in the past year, and it’s really nice to see that getting recognised at the Student Radio Awards. On a personal level, I’m over the moon with my nomination, as I have been applying for a few years now and it’s my first one! My show was entirely a passion project during quarantine, celebrating R&B, alternative Hip-Hop and Neo-soul, that are genres that don't normally get much love on the radio.’

Fellow URB member, Ben Harrison-Hyde, and nominee for ‘Best Entertainment Programming’, for his show ‘URB’s Alternative Eurovision Night’, talks about the poignancy of his nomination:

‘I’m pleased to have received one of these nominations myself having put lots of effort into the station over the past year, especially after we were finally able to reopen again in March. The Eurovision show that was nominated felt like the closer for everything last year, back in the studio with exams finishing during the week. Plenty of effort went into researching and producing the programme so even getting recognition and a nomination for it feels like an amazing reward.’

At the SU, we want to wish URB all the luck in the world for the awards ceremony in just over a week’s  time, and if you want to discover just how good the radio station is, check out Antigoni’s nominated show on Spotify: ‘we move radio’.
