Latin and Ballroom Group host Annual Winter Friendly Competition!

On November 25, the Latin and Ballroom group are hosting their annual Bath Winter Friendly Competition.

This is always a super popular event, where many different Universities travel to Bath to compete in a Latin and Ballroom competition – similar to our very own on-campus version of Strictly Come Dancing!

Events Coordinator Dominic explained that ‘in the Latin and Ballroom group we get taught ten different dances; 5 in Latin – Cha Cha Cha, Jive, Rumba, Samba and Paso Doble- and five in ballroom – Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz and Tango. All of these dances will be on display during the competition, demonstrated by a range of skill levels, all the way from beginner to advanced!’

The event will be held in the Founders Hall, with dances starting at 9:00 and finishing at 19:00. Even though it is a full day event, spectators are welcome to come and go as they please – below are some rough timings of the day and full timetable will be published on the day of the event.

8:30 – Doors open
9:00 – Ballroom Rounds begin
12:05 – Ballroom Presentation
13:00 – Latin Rounds Begin
16:20 – Latin Presentation

The Bath Winter Friendly Competition will be absolutely free to watch for any Bath University students with their library card, and just £6 on the door for any guests.

After the event, there will be a Winter Ball held in the Claverton Rooms from 19:30 until late. This is always a lovely event, where different Universities can come together and dance without the pressure of the competition. The group has also gained special permission to allow people to bring their own drinks (alcoholic or otherwise) to the Ball. Even better, Bath’s very own Big Band will be providing the entertainment for the evening and everything will be captured by a professional photographer.

If you would like any more information about the event, you can check out their page on the SU website or reach out to the group on social media.
