Alex Pool was selected amongst applicants across the UK to represent the National Union of Students (NUS) at a conference to be held by the European Students' Union (ESU) in Slovakia, this September.

The event is part of a project which is currently being carried out by ESU, entitled "Time for Student Centered Learning (T4SCL)".

Alex will join students and student representatives from across Europe and upon completion will act as national expert on SCL within the UK.

Alex said “Representing the NUS at a European level is a real honour and not
something I ever thought I'd get the chance to say I'd be doing and I'm really looking forward to it.

To get the role I had to apply to the NUS with an application form and CV, they then short listed me to the ESU who then chose me.

The aims of T4SCL are to increase awareness for the need to focus on learner-centred forms of learning. The aim of the conference is to apparently make me a "leading national expert", (slightly scary) on Student Centred Learning to then advise both the NUS and other organisations.

I think getting the NUS's voice within Europe has never been more important. With the Bologna Process bringing together academic degree standards and quality controls this is something we should be keeping a keen eye on and making sure our voices are heard”
