Alex Pool 2nd Year Undergraduate wins NUS Course Representative of the year

A successful evening for BUSU at the 2010 NUS Awards

The Students’ Union (BUSU) were thrilled when Alex Pool, 2nd Year Undergraduate won the NUS award for Course Representative of the year award at the NUS Awards on 1 July 2010.

BUSU also had two runners up awards with Fiona Bruce for The Endsleigh Student of the Year award and BUSU for the Community relations award. This is a great achievement for the Students’ Union.

Alex Pool was nominated by the Students’ Union for his continued work as a Course Representative throughout the last two years.

Alex has been one of the most dedicated reps the Students’ Union has ever seen, and has demonstrated an unprecedented level of commitment and work, winning the ‘Academic Rep of the Year’ award here at Bath both last year (08/09) and this year 09/10.

2009/ 2010 was Alex’s second year as a course rep (academic rep) as well as faculty rep. He was also elected as Chair of the Academic Executive Committee, a committee that oversees academic representation and all related campaigns in the Students’ Union.

Alex has also represented the Students’ Union at the NUS Course Reps Conference held in Birmingham (Dec 2009), presenting on the Academic Representation structure of the University of Bath Students’ Union.

Ms. Gwen van der Velden, Director of Learning & Teaching Enhancement said;
 “Alex Pool has been an impressive student rep to work with. With a real drive to improve the learning experience, he has researched the use of online unit evaluations in other universities, surveyed several hundred students in his faculty and produced a strategic Paper for our university committees to adjust our policies. It is striking that so many students have supported his proposals which indicates the wide-held trust he enjoys. Interestingly he is also someone that I note staff are increasingly involving in enhancement activities in the sciences.”

Huge congratulations to Alex and Fiona as well as everyone who has supported them through this process and everyone involved in improving community relations.
