What do I do?
My role is to oversee the running of the Sports Association, and to work with the SU, Sports Department and the University to ensure that you are getting the most out of the sporting opportunities offered at Bath
My main objectives for the year
I have lots of goals for the year ahead which are becoming clearer all the time. But for now, here are some of the goals that are a little clearer:
- Making students aware of the coach education fund, so they can get a caching qualification to benefit their club and friends
- Working with the Events officers on the SA exec to try and develop a second SA wide social event in the summer term
- Working with all sporting individuals, clubs and committees to ensure that the new kit deal being worked on has a smooth transition into university life.
How I got Here
I started my degree in 2007 studying Chemistry and Management (what ever Dot says, it is just as hard as straight chemistry and I am not a cop out!), and during my first year didn't even realise there was a difference between the SU and the uni, although I did know I wanted to help out in Freshers' Week.
At the end of my first year I was chosen as one of the Freshers' Week Captains for 2008, and from then on I was hooked (I also learnt the difference between the uni and SU)!
During my second year, I ran for academic rep, and then faculty rep, which meant I sat on academic council, the Chemistry SSLC, academic exec and the Science Board of studies, and then at the back end I got elected to be the Events Officer on the Sports Exec (I got to organise the Snowball in 2009).
The highlight of my second year, however, was being selected as 1 of 3 people to organise Freshers' Week 2009, I was a FWEM! In my mind I had made it, and working with the Sabb over the summer I knew that's what I wanted to do next.
In my 3rd and final year, I was a FWEM, I was again an academic rep and faculty rep, I was Events officer on the SA exec and through most of it, planning my campaign to be a Sabb. Oh, there was also my degree to try and concentrate on.
The feeling I got having read that letter from Bath in 2007; The feeling I got getting that email telling me I was to be a FWEM; The feeling I got from watching 3000 people enjoying themselves at Freshers' Week 2009; The feeling I got winning the sabb election in March 2010; The feeling I got when my name was called out at graduation.
Just WOW!
It is definitely something I can recommend, you're already at least 1/5 there, so why not give something else a go.
Truth or Trick
I was once knocked out by my dog running into me and head-butting me.
True or False?
True:I was tying my shoelace on our driveway waiting to take the dog for a walk, she was excited, and ran straight into me...
I was once knocked out by falling off of a wendy house
True or False?
False:that was actually my brother
