Who am I?
I’m an outgoing, approachable and enthusiastic student, like the majority of people you’ll meet here in the Students’ Union. Prior to becoming a Sabb I had been studying Civil & Architectural Engineering since 2002 which seems like only yesterday. Your time here at university will pass really quickly which is why I got involved with as much as I could.

I love to be active whether it’s sports or going out making my own adventures. I’ve played hockey for the university for the last 5 years and also got involved in jitsu. Keeping fit and healthy is important to me so I make use of the facilities we have here on campus including going to the gym and swimming (although my front crawl is rubbish!)

I started my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award in my first year and have helped out since. I’ve also volunteered my time and been part of the Societies Exec which gave me a great insight into the diverse range of student societies in the SU.

Last summer I was an Event Manager for Freshers’ Week and organised all of the activities and introductions for the new students which increased my understanding of how the university works and how you can be apart of it!

What do I do?
Student involvement in the SU is huge with many students choosing to join a society or volunteer and increase their potential and enjoyment. As VP A&D I am responsible for assisting students to participate in these areas, as well as liaising with Enterprise, Joblink and SORTED.

I am available to help and offer advice to any student who wishes to join, or even start up their own society. At the start of the year I allocate budgets and information to the many societies and provide training to allow the committees to develop their societies for the benefit of their members - it’s important for each society to offer something exciting and different!

I also give support to the various student executives that are selected to assist and provide the many students in the SU with further guidance specific to their activities..

Myself and the other Sabbs work with our student paper, TV station and radio station to make sure you’re informed about what’s happening on and around campus and encourage you to get involved and contribute! The SU is always looking to develop and as fellow students we’re here to listen to your ideas and publicise them.

Overall I’ll be working to ensure that societies, volunteering and the many exciting areas in the SU continue to expand and offer more from input and direction by you.

My main objectives for the year

With the experience of having been a Sabb for a year already I know it’s going to be a busy year with many new challenges arising. However, my main aims for the year are to ensure that you get the most out of your student experience. I want to make it easier for you to organise and get involved with the many activities that fall under societies and volunteering and improve the professionalism of those areas. I would like to see more collaboration between the different areas of the SU, particularly with more involvement in student media and more focused reporting on the creative and artistic events that take place.

From small projects like providing secure storage space for societies, through to being part of the team behind the new Arts Complex, I aim to ensure students’ needs are met both in the long term and on a day to day basis.
