Your Role as Club Treasurer
As treasurer, YOU are responsible for the money that is in your club account. The SA treasurers will also watch the accounts carefully to ensure you don’t overspend.
Examine your budget and pay attention to the changes, you may have less than you asked for.
Budgets are allocated for kit, equipment, transport to non-BUSA matches/trips, maintenance, catering, entry fees (non-BUSA), officials and miscellaneous, etc.
Check your monthly balance carefully. These can be obtained from the friendly bunch in the Finance Office, or from the SA Treasurers (SA Exec).
Be ORGANISED, it is unlikely that anyone else in your club will be. Overspending will not be tolerated by the SA, or the SU Treasurer.
Once your money has gone it’s gone, for the year! It is imperative that you collect all match fees, kit money, deposits for meals etc.It is also important to charge a fee for every activity, even if it is only a contribution to the cost of transport.
ALL TRANSACTIONS MUST BE PROCESSED THROUGH THE STUDENTS’ UNION FINANCE OFFICE. Clubs CANNOT use individuals to pay for things then refund them and under no circumstances are clubs allowed to have their own bank account. If your club has a bank account the SA/Finance Manager should be informed immediately and arrangements made to close it.
If you are not sure about anything please ask the SA Treasurers. They are there to be firm with you (as you should be with your clubs), but they are also unlikely to bite!
