Come and get involved with one of the fastest racquet sports at the University and in the world! Whether you’re national standard or you’ve never played before we have training and coaching sessions to suit you. There are weekly coaching sessions led by qualified coaches, training sessions three times per week and match practice to put everything you’ve learnt into action. As well as flourishing on the table, the Table Tennis club is one of the most sociable sports societies at the University with regular events so there’s always something to do.
Practice Times are as follows:
Founders Hall (area 7-8) Mon 12.15-2.15pm
Founders Hall (area 1-2) Tues 6-7.30pm (Please Note the change of time!)
Founders Hall (area 1-2) Fri 5-7pm
Clothing notice:
Just so everyone knows, the Sports Hall has a dress policy and they can get a bit fussy about wearing jeans and trainers that can mark the floor. In future when coming to training sessions can you please try to remember to wear sports clothing.
Match Reports:
Hi guys,
Thought I'd post the match results on here to keep everyone up to date with how we are doing...
Men's 1st 1-16 London Met (Team China)
The men's first team took on last year's British and European Universities champions London Metropolitan. The away side had lost 2 of their Chinese Superstars from last year but unfortunately had imported a Taiwanese International and some old guy who we reckon must have been something like the 1970's Olympic Champion (100% unofficial!) Add to that one Chinese international and pretty damn good English guy so this match was always gonna be tough!
Neil was the hero who picked up our only point, coming back from 2 sets down to beat the Olympic Champ. Hakan and Dave both lost 11-9 in the 5th to the old boy, and we also nicked the first leg in the doubles against last year's European Universities Doubles Champions. A special mention also to Andy who had a pretty bad throat at the start of the game, but battled through to the extent that he could barely talk at the end of it!
So overall despite the scoreline I thought everyone played pretty well, and we can at least take comfort in the fact that nobody else is gonna get close to beating those guys!
Men's 2nd 5-12 Cardiff Men's 1st
The Men's 2nd team picked up a creditible 5 points against Cardiff's first team, with Matt Tucker picking up 3, Jon Pearson and Tom Bowes picking up 1.
A creditible performance from the lads who are in league with all other uni first teams and especially considering a couple of late drop outs to our team we did well tp pick up what we did. Well played chaps!
Women's 1st 0-5 Bristol Women's 1st
The girls headed off to Bristol and unfortunately came home empty handed, however I'm confident that the girls dominated the after match shopping spree in Bristol Centre!
We are lucky to have quite a few girls in the club this year and I'm sure it won't be long before we start picking up some points in the League!
Thanks very much to everyone who played today, espeicially those guys n girls who filled in right at the last minute! Unfortunately no wins were recorded but it seemed like we had some pretty tough opposition and I'm sure after another week's practice we will come be stronger and get some wins under our belt next weds...
