Jiu Jitsu

Jiu Jitsu is a practical, defensive martial art. At its core is the principle that aggression can be overcome by seeming to yield to it, by using an attacker’s strength, size and momentum to a defender’s advantage. Men and women of all ages, shapes and sizes can therefore become very good at it. Training is gradual, but as you progress through the belt structure you will learn to defend yourself against increasingly demanding armed and unarmed attacks, using a system of throws, locks and strikes.

The University of Bath club prides itself as being one of the largest club’s within The Jitsu Foundation the national body the club is affiliated to www.jitsufoundation.org which practices the Shorinji-Kan style. The club makes good use of the excellent facilities available to us including holding 3 training sessions a week in a large, sprung, fixed dojo.

As well as training, the club’s region provides courses, gradings, instructor qualifications and first aid courses, not forgetting two national competitions that are attended each year. Due to the close nature of training, you will find that the Jiu Jitsu club has a vibrant social life off the mat with each session ending with a friendly drink at the pub. Club membership is £15 and training sessions are free for university students, after a one-off license fee of £25. For more information, please refer to our external club website: www.bathjitsu.co.uk
