What We Do

Whether you want to try a new sport*, swim for fitness, or compete internationally, the University of Bath Swimming Club provides training and competition opportunities to all. There are no limits as to how much you can learn and progress with our world-class training facilities and sessions.

With over 200 members, we have a long tradition of success with swimmers breaking National Records, and competing at BUCS, Commonwealth Games, and Olympic Games. We also host regular social events throughout the semester, so if you’re looking to have fun and get involved, these are great ways to meet new people.

So go ahead and get involved – we can’t wait to meet you!

Recreational Swimming

A fun and relaxed squad with complete flexibility over training times. If you’re looking to improve your fitness, get back into swimming, or push yourself, this squad is for you. We offer swimming sessions from Monday to Sunday with the opportunity to compete in competitions from county to British University Swimming League meets. Our sessions are currently run by Luke Turley, a GB swimmer who creates different training plans for different abilities which gives you the ability to choose between a technique, aerobic, or sprint session to meet your goal. Prior to joining the recreational squad, you will be asked to swim 50m, at any pace, in any stroke, to ensure the Lifeguards you are comfortable in the water.

Performance Swimming

The performance swimming programme is designed for swimmers who are working towards International, European, Commonwealth, and World Championships with the aim of achieving Olympic Qualification. Led by head coach Mark Skimming and Dr. Andrei Vorontsov, Olympic coach to Russia and Sweden, the programme includes upwards of 20 hours of swimming per week alongside multiple gym sessions. Performance squad is by invitation only from head coach Mark Skimming. As one of the most successful teams at the University, the performance programme allows athletes to reach their full potential whilst also gaining a degree from a world-class university.

*Unfortunately the swimming club cannot offer lessons to non-swimmers. In order to join you must be a competent swimmer comfortable in a 50m pool.
