Hey! Welcome to Sci-Fi and Fantasy Society!
Sci-Fi meets three times a week to take advantage of BIG screens in lecture halls to watch awesome films and programmes. For free.
Sound good?
Whether your thing is mellow films which make you think or blockbusters with lots of action, cutesy kids stuff or really dark intense thrillers, we've got something for everyone. (We hope.) Your membership fee covers all the screenings we show and you're free to come to as few or as many as you like.
Classic Screenings: Tuesdays in 8W1.1
You know the stuff - the films they show on TV Saturday afternoons which are amazing but really old. Here you'll find a selection of films from mainly the 80s and 90s which you may or may not know. Only the best in the history of film have made it onto this list so come along and relive your childhood.
Main Screenings: Wednesdays in 8W1.1
We expect you'll know most of these - they were the summer and christmas blockbusters of the last few years. Expect lots of action and famous names - and a few gems that should have been more noticed than they were.
Anime Screenings: Fridays in 8W1.1
Anime is often overlooked - these are cartoons but don't let that put you off - they're far more than just kids stuff. Screenings are shown in the original Japanese with English subtitles. Expect giant robots and cute school uniforms. A third to a half of a series is shown per night - about 6-9 episodes of 20 minutes duration makes for quite a long evening and we finish about 11:00pm so come prepared with snacks to keep you awake! (There is a short break in the middle.)
Special Events
Sci Fi is a very social society and there is often something happening besides screenings. Keep your eyes peeled for events such as the bi-annual quiz and trips to Bristol and London. There'll be a couple of Saturday events at "Sci-Fi Headquarters" to show triple bills of films.
Website
Our website over at http://people.bath.ac.uk/su8scifi has loads more information about our events and regularly updated forums with space for you to give your feedback on our programme. We want to show what you want to watch but we won't know if you don't tell us!
