:. Welcome to the University of Bath Buddhist Meditation Society .:

Our society meet every Wednesday evening in 2E 3.5 from 5.30-7.00pm in term-time, for a session lasting around an hour and a half. Once a week it's a great opportunity to talk about life, improve your concentration, learn how to meditate and spend a really good time.

Meditation is simply a method of training our mind to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness.  The purpose of meditation is to make the mind calm and peaceful. When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and the mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment arises naturally from within.

The sessions are informal and the group discussion at the end is a fun way to meet new people and a good place to ask for other people’s thoughts on the meditations and teachings. We hope to have a couple of social evenings over the year, as well as a mini-bus trip to the Bristol Buddhist Meditation Centre for those interested.

Excerpt from the introduction to 'Eight steps to happiness'. This is a very useful explanation of the main concepts of Buddhist teachings which we work through in sessions.
