.:. Welcome to the Buddhist Meditation Society .:.
Our society meet every Monday evening in the chaplaincy, from 6.30pm in term-time, for a session lasting around an hour and a quarter. Once a week it's a great opportunity to talk about life, improve your concentration, learn how to meditate and have a good time.
Meditation is simply a method of training our mind to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. The purpose of meditation is to make the mind calm and peaceful. When the turbulence of distracting thoughts subsides and the mind becomes still, a deep happiness and contentment arises naturally from within.
The sessions are informal and the group discussion at the end is a fun way to meet new people and a good place to ask for other people’s thoughts on the meditations and teachings. We hope to have a couple of social evenings over the year, as well as a mini-bus trip to the Bristol Buddhist Meditation Centre for those interested.
The teacher for this year is Phill, from the Amitabha Buddhist Centre in Bristol. You can find out more about the Amitabha centre and the classes they offer here:
