The PGA is the voice of postgraduates at the University of Bath. How has it responded to what you want?

You wanted a dedicated postgraduate social space.

...We did

We have just closed an online survey, run to get more comprehensive information about postgraduate opinion on social space, which will be analaysed in detail and used to convey postgraduate views to University decision-making bodies. The PGA will continue to pursue this issue as one which crucially affects postgraduate inclusion, the standard of University research culture and the quality of the student experience.

You wanted more opportunities to meet and socialise with postgraduates across departments.

...We did

The PGA has run the Christmas Ceilidh and the Valentine's Jazz Night, and we are also planning a range of different events from a postgraduate pub quiz to barbecues. Meeting of Minds, the postgraduate conference on 2nd June, has a strong interdisciplinary emphasis and provides the opportunity for postgraduates from different departments to meet and network.

Postgraduates working as Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) wanted more preparation, training and support.

...We did

The PGA has co-operated with the University's Learning & Teaching Enhancement Office in promoting a trial project by the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences as best practice across the University, and GTAs are now given a minimum level of teacher training.

You wanted better communication of postgraduate events and issues.

...We did

The PGA newsletter, the Graduate Post, is emailed fortnightly to all postgraduates and distributed in paper form around the campus. The PGA website has an extended news section and is updated regularly, as is the PGA Facebook group. The website and Facebook group also include links to national postgraduate stories from the Independent, Guardian, Times Education and BBC.
