Welcome to the Capoeira Society homepage!
We are a new society having only started half way into last year and have a lot planned for the future here at Bath.
The society trains once a week on campus on a THURSDAY evening (7.30 - 9.30) with Instructor Parana (Grupo Cativeiro Capoeira Bath).
(note: The group also trains in town on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday)
WHAT IS CAPOEIRA?
Instructor Parana explains..."
Capoeira is an Afro-brazilian art form dramatically expressed through the forms of dance, games, music and self-defence"

HOW DO I START?
First things first - turn up!
You need no previous experience in Capoeira in order to start and you certainly don't need to be a gymnast or black belt in some other martial art, so just turn up and have a go. (If that's a bit daunting give me a shout and organise to come and have a look to see if Capoeira's something you want to try)
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE LESSONS?
Every lesson is different so that's a difficult question to answer!
Normally we will start with a warm up followed by gentle (But vital!) stretching. The core part of the class will depend on what Instructor Parana decides so we'll keep that as a surprise, but lessons always finish with a Roda. The Roda is a fundamental aspect to Capoeira that comprises of the group gathering in a circle, in the centre of which an interchanging pair will play each other. All people involved interact through song, music and clapping led by traditional instruments.
If you have any questions just give the committee a shout and we'll do our best to answer you or put you directly in touch with Instructor Parana.
We hope to see you soon!!
