Eight PhD students received training on Monday 8th September through the Students' Union to become Mentors as part of a new pilot scheme being offered in the Faculty of Engineering and Design.

Incoming students will be offered a Mentor and will meet up regularly with their Mentor throughout the year.

Peer mentors share their experiences as a research postgraduate of doctoral and campus life, and signpost support services if necessary.

Oliver Schofield, the Peer Support Coordinator in the Students' Union who is running the pilot scheme, said:

"The Students' Union are very excited about working with Engineering and Design on this project and it is hoped that more faculties will adopt such a scheme. We've had very positive feedback from research postgraduates we've spoken to from various departments about the benefits of peer mentoring"
