The Students' Union has launched a week long campus-wide appeal in response to the devastating earthquake in the Sichuan province of China. The disaster has killed at least 40,000 people, injured 250,000 and has left almost 5 million homeless. A further 32,000 people are also  still reported missing.

There are a number of ways you can support the Chinese Earthquake Appeal:

  1.  Donating directly to the  Red Cross Chinese Earthquake Appeal via the donation pots in the retail outlets across campus or online at www.redcross.org.uk/news.asp?id=81083

  2. An example of one of the pieces of art available Purchase an original Chinese piece of art from the exhibition in the Claverton Rooms or from in front of the Library. All proceeds from this will be donated to the Red Cross Chinese Earthquake Appeal. For more details please email Qian Yi, at wb1qy@bath.ac.uk

The catalogue of the artwork available can be viewed online here >>

The paintings shown in the catalogue are all original paintings. A number of them have been sold in the last few days. Please email Qian if you would like to know which ones are still available.

If you wish to order a work online, you can do so via the e-shop here>>

If buying online, please follow your e-shop order with an email to Qian YI at wb1qy@bath.ac.uk stating which piece(s) you would like.

  3. Donate to ChinaRen's (Bath University Chinese Society) collection for the Red Cross on the Parade every lunchtime.

The Union is also calling on all members of the University to participate in a three minutes silence at Midday on Tuesday 27 May on the Parade (or in the chaplaincy if weather is unfavourable). This will be led by the Chaplaincy for victims of both the earthquake in China and the cyclone in Burma.
