The International Student Advice Team is looking to recruit 10 Induction Assistants to help with the orientation programme for new international students in September. 

Duties: To assist with the arrival and welcoming of new international students.  This could include travelling by coach to Heathrow airport to collect students; helping with ice-breaker events; helping them move into their residences; staffing an ‘International Student Meeting Point’ where they can come for information, tea and coffee, etc; taking groups into town by bus to show them where amenities are, e.g. supermarkets, etc.You may be asked to give presentations and guided tours to new students.

Qualities: You will need large amounts of energy and stamina, as this will involve long hours!  You will also need patience, understanding, and a cheerful and friendly disposition.  Common sense, initiative and leadership skills will also be required.  Sensitivity to cultural differences is essential. We are looking for British and International students who are actively involved in extra-curricular activities in the Students’ Union whether this is volunteering or being involved as an academic rep, a society or student group.

Please note, it is essential that you are available to attend training/briefing events on Thursday 2 June from 2pm and during the week commencing 19 September (for which you will be paid).
 
A willingness to be involved in future voluntary opportunities will be an advantage.
