Trade Unions

You may want to look into joining a trade union whilst you are working. You will be eligible to join whether you work on or off campus. Here are the three unions that the University supports on campus: With more than 1.3 million members working across the public services, being part of UNISON means you have the full weight of the UK's biggest trade union behind you.

Amicus the union is dedicated to serving the needs and best interests of its members who are currently experiencing life in the modern workplace.

Representing all workers in both the public and private sectors, Amicus is dedicated to improving their standard of living and the quality of their lives through effective relationships with employers and government.

The University and College Union (UCU) is the recognized union for academic and academic-related staff committed to the advancement of university education and research. It negotiates salary levels and conditions of employment with your employers. In order to maintain a strong negotiating position, a large membership is vital.

The association has many members who are not university teachers. Many members are either researchers, administrators, computer staff, librarians or other professional staff.
