P45s and National Minimum Wage

Obtaining a P45 from the University of Bath

If you are employed by the University of Bath and wish to receive your P45 (i.e. you have finished all your jobs with the University of Bath), you need to send a request in to JobLink (joblink@bath.ac.uk). Please ensure you include the address you would like your P45 sending to, otherwise it may end up in an old student accomodation address. It is not possible to send copies of your P45, so once it's lost you must rely on the Inland Revenue to supply your new employer with the correct tax code.

Payroll will issue your P45 on a monthly basis so please tell us by the end of each month if you wish to receive your P45. They should be posted to reach you around the start of the next month. If you have any queries about your P45 please speak to payroll on 01225 384410.

You will need to give your P45 to your next employer so they can see which tax code to put you on.

National Minimum Wage

As a worker you have certain rights such as pay and the number of hours you work. You can find more information here.

National Minimum Wage is aimed at providing employees with decent minimum standards and fairness in the workplace.

Main (adult) rate for workers aged 22 and over:

£5.73 per hour from October 2008

Development rate for workers aged 18-21 inclusive:

£4.77 per hour from October 2008

If you think you are being underpaid and wish to make a complaint, please ring 0845 6000 678. All complaints about underpayment of the National Minimum Wage will be treated in the strictest confidence.

If you are working on campus you will be put on the Student payscale which is issued by Human Resources and is updated every October. Your employer will be able to tell you which band you are on.

We do not advise you to ever work on a commission only basis and will never knowingly advertise such positions. Please let us know if employers are not paying you the rate they advertised in the job advert.
