If you are a student at the University of Bath then you are a member of the Bath University Students’ Union (BUSU). Being a member of the SU gives you access to a wide range of services and opportunities, from being able to join societies and sports clubs through to support services and advice for a whole host of situations.

To make the most of the SU you need to activate your account for our website BathStudent.com. The process for activation is below, and there are some frequently asked questions about the process below.

1) You must complete the University Registration On-Line (ROL) before you can activate your BathStudent.com account. All students, new and returning, must complete ROL at the start of the year. To register on-line go to www.bath.ac.uk/registation-on-line .
2) For new students there will be an option in ROL to select that you would like your details passed to the Students’ Union, leave this box ticked so that we get some details about you passed across automatically.
3) When you finish ROL you will see a link to click on that will bring you to the account activation page on BathStudent.com, click on this link.
4) The account activation page will ask you to choose a password, once you have done this your account will be activated and ready to use.
5) You can now use BathStudent.com to buy your new club and society memberships, NUS Extra card, and Freshers Week Wristbands (First Year Students Only) as well as find out more about whats going on in the SU.

FAQs:

Q: Why should I agree to join the University of Bath's Students' Union and allow my personal data to be passed to the Student's Union?
A: Every student is automatically a member of the Students' Union. By agreeing to join the SU and pass on your personal details automatically you are saving yourself time and effort. The SU provides you with support, advice, and information about how to make the most of your time at the University. As a member you are able to join any one of the 150 societies and sports clubs; make use of the facilities offered by the SU (including club nights) and have access to discounts offered through membership of the NUS. When you then log into bathstudent.com to complete your registration with the SU you will find your personal details already there so you don't
have to type the information in.

Q: What data will be passed to the Student's Union?
A:
We will only pass to the Student's Union the data that they need for their membership database e.g. your personal information (name, title, date of birth, addresses) and also your course information.

Q: Why do I have to agree to this? Surely the Students' Union is part of the
University?
A:
The Students' Union is part of the University, but maintains its own website and database. By agreeing to have your personal data passed to the SU, you are saving yourself valuable time.

Q: Where do I get my Union card from?
A:
The University is now issuing a joint Library/Students' Union card. This card will serve as both your Library card (to enable you to get into the library and take out books) as well as your proof that you are a member of the University of Bath Students' Union . Once you've completed registration online you can collect your card from the Library - you don't have to wait until you've completed your membership application on bathstudent.com. Your membership status will be printed on the card.

Q: Do I have to do anything further about my membership once I've agreed to join up and have my details passed to the Student's Union?
A:
Your data will be passed to the membership database on a regular basis. You should click the link from the final page of ROL ( which confirm that you have completed the ROL process), to activate you account with the SU.
Alternatively, you should make sure you log onto www.bathstudent.com to complete your membership application and to activate your account.
Once you've completed this process, you can then buy products online such as clubs and societies memberships; Freshers wristbands(for Freshers only); and the separate National Union of Students 'Extra' card which entitles you to a range of discounts and incorporates the International Student Identity Card.

Q: If I decide NOT to agree to have my data transferred to the Student's Union now, but change my mind later - what should I do about joining?
A:
Membership of the SU is free and by joining you will benefit from a range of facilities and support services. But if you decide now that you don't wish to join the Students' Union, you should un-tick the box before clicking on the "Agree and proceed" button for the page. This means that your data will not be passed to the Students' Union. When you go and get your Library card from the Library there will be no mention of the Students' Union on the card. If you change your mind and decide that you do wish to join the Students' Union, you should log back into Registration Online and tick the box to agree to pass your data to the Students' Union. You will then need to get a new Library card/ SU card which will show your membership status. The Library will charge you to replace your old library card with a new one.

Q: When I re-register next year will I be asked again, if I want to join the Student's Union?
A:
No - if you decide to join the Students' Union this year, you will not be asked again - your wish to join the Students' Union will be assumed.

Q: If I decide to join the Student's Union, but then change my mind and wish to opt out, what should I do?
A:
You cannot opt out of the Students' Union by un-ticking the box on this screen. If you wish to opt out having joined, you should write to the Students' Union President indicating your wish to opt out of the Students' Union.
